The Wildcats earned their first victory of the season with a hard fought win over a very talented Cleveland team. Westview built a 17 point lead in the first half but had to hold off a furious rally by Cleveland who cut the lead to 6 in the fourth quarter.
Shasank Bonthala pulled in a career high 5 rebounds to go along with a career high 18 points to pace the Wildcats. He and Kobe Newton combined to go 7-8 from the foul line down the stretch to seal the victory in the EastBay Classic at Oregon City High School. The Wildcats received big defensive contributions from senior posts Jack Poling and Matt White who made life rough on Cleveland around the basket. The two posts plus Andrew Bear and Bonthala paced the dominant rebounding performance for Westview who finished with a 26-17 advantage on the boards.
Next up is the final game of the EastBay Classic at 430 pm Saturday against Rex Putnam.
