Here is a highlight of some of the athletes that stood out this week:
Girls Golf’s athlete of the week is May Wang! May is a senior leader on our team, as well as one of the best golfers in the state. She is a mentor to our new players on the course and in the classroom where she also carries a 4.32 GPA.
Softball’s athlete of the week is Kendra Hutchinson. She went 5 for 8 with a HR and 5 RBI’s last week. This included 3 hits, 4 RBI’s and a key HR off of Oregon City 1st team all state pitcher Morgan Hornback on Wednesday.
Track’s athlete of the week is Cameron Nazal. Cameron ran a 4:30.05 1500m at the Cotton Invitational at Grant/Marshall High School. It was Cameron’s first 1500m in a race and he nailed it. Cameron jumped and ran the 100m last track season as a freshman. He joined XC in the Fall and ran his way to Varsity as a sophomore.
Our Track & Field Captains chose Cameron this week based upon the following: “Really fast 1500”, “Especially for his first 1500” and “He looked super strong throughout the race.”
Girls lacrosse’s athlete of the week is Alison Schaper, Senior Captain, #8. The whole WGL program started the week with 2 incredible unprecedented TRL wins against Lakeridge (13-8) and West Linn (12-7). Schaper played center/ midfield for the Wildcats and absolutely dominated. 11 goals this week, 7 draw controls, and un-matched speed and composure on the field. This was a massive week in the history of WGL and Schaper has been right in the thick of it with speed, shot placement, and leadership.
