Girls Varsity Basketball · Oregon Live High School Basketball Preview

WHS Girls Picked Third in Metro

1. Southridge 2. Jesuit 3. Westview
Last year: 2016-17 record: 16-8, (11-5, 4th in Metro)
All-League Players Departed:
Alexis Meyer, third team
Players to Watch:
Nicole Flennaugh, junior
Kamryn Jones, junior

Outlook: The Wildcats have a potent one-two punch in their junior class. Nicole Flennaugh shot 42.5 percent from three-point range last season and is one of the most electric perimeter players in the Metro League, and 6-foot Kamryn Jones is a force inside, averaging nearly 10 rebounds per game. Both earned second team all-league honors after combining to average 27.8 points per contest. The Wildcats return three starters and eight varsity players, so they should be in capable hands. Last season, they beat the teams they were supposed to beat and lost to each of the top teams they played. With more experience, perhaps Flennaugh and Jones — who both are receiving college interest — can lead Westview to an even stronger season. The Wildcats likely will find themselves third or fourth in league once again. But this season, they could win a playoff game.
